Mandinga Arts has launched its Winter Workshop Programme!

Facilitated by leading artists, Co-Founders and Co-Artistic Directors of Mandinga Arts Ltd Charles Beauchamp and Julieta Rubio, Mandinga Master and Backstage Workshops are aimed primarily at adults with an interest in developing and extending their knowledge and experience in carnival and street theatre arts.

Master Workshop:

This workshop covers all major aspects involved in costume design and realisation; ideal for those at the beginning of a project or simply for people who share the same enthusiasm for Carnival Arts.

From giant puppet making or float construction to costumes, headdresses, accessories and make-up, these workshops are tailored to challenge and inspire; from the experienced artist and professional performer to the passionate novice or teacher, the workshop provides a solid grounding in traditional and contemporary techniques and materials.

Costumes, headdresses, props and puppets are on site and used as a source of reference and can be worn, tried and tested. Drawings, maquettes, DVDs and other visual documentation from numerous Mandinga designs and productions can be viewed.

“I really enjoyed it, as it strikes the balance of hands-on and display /demonstrations. The atmosphere is very relaxed and a lot can be learnt/ done.”

“A really excellent day... full of practical and inspirational ideas suitable for our school context but also great for our own personal creativity.”

Mandinga Backstage:

An exclusive opportunity for you to see behind the scenes at Mandinga Arts Ltd. Mandinga Backstage is a tailor made visit to the studios and presentation of the creative processes involved in producing some of the most imaginative and unique carnival and outdoor art in the UK.

Established in 2002, in response to a need for artists to work together on outdoor performance and to practice, improve, educate, share and promote carnival arts, the company has gained both national and international status. Mandinga combines live music, carnival and street costume and dance, drawing on diverse influences from Europe, Latin America and Africa, with community based contributions to the carnival and outdoor performance movement in the UK.

Costumes, headdresses, props and puppets are on site and used as a source of reference and can be worn, tried and tested. Drawings, maquettes, DVDs and other visual documentation from numerous Mandinga designs and productions can be viewed. Also ddemonstrations of specialist equipment and machinery can be performed if requested.

Come to discuss your ideas, projects with the Artistic Directors.

“I had an inspirational day and take away lots of ideas that we will use in our carnival.”

“The day has been very informative, but also informal and flexible enough in structure to adapt to the needs of the group.”
