THE BIG PINEAPPLE CARNIVAL PARADE

This year’s carnival theme of pineapples is in honour of Stockwell native John Tradescant – a 17th century botanist who brought the first pineapple into Britain.

Assembling in Larkhall Park to lead off at 4pm. The parade will be led by ‘Our Lady Pineapple’ – an exclusive design for the Stockwell Festival by Mandinga Arts – who will be flanked by an assortment of baby pineapples, pineapple ‘chunks’, hats, masks, shakers and not forgetting the ‘Day-of-the-Dead’ skeletons. It will be taken through the streets by the uplifting samba sounds of the ‘Bateria Ritmos da Cidade’ with Romero’s dancing troupe and will finish at the Stockwell Studios.

End of Parade Family Party

5-7pm at the Stockwell Studios, McCall Close, Jeffreys Road. This year the Studios will be hosting a ‘family party’ at the end of the parade. There will be refreshments, live singing, crazy golf, trapeze performances, guided tours of the artists work, another chance to have a go at the voice distorting ‘Sound Table’ and plenty more to interest children and grown-ups alike.
