Last year (2003) Mandinga Arts teamed up with Paraiso School of Samba and created a memorable display of carnival passion: a visual feast of costumes, outstanding performances and a spirit of friendship and celebration shared by all the participants. This year we intend to extend this artistic and “carnival family” connection by joining Paraiso again.

Paraiso is the leading School of Samba in the country. Their 2004 theme is “Venice to Rio to Paradise”. If you would like to join Mandinga Arts at Notting Hill 2004, please contact us as soon as possible. Subject to availability, you will be provided with a full costume and, where appropriate, carnival make up; there is a choice of 4 different designs. The costumes are free of charge, however there is a contribution charge of £10 to Paraiso who will be providing a secure and comfortable place to change in, plus stewards, drinks, refreshments and snacks during the parade.

If you wish to be involved but not to dress up, then you can be part of the dedicated team of crew, assisting with costumes, make up and supporting & stewarding during the parade.

A make-up workshop is being held at Mandinga’s studios on Friday 20 August from 6 to 9pm, led by Bibi Freeman, the leading carnival make up artist with over 20 years experience in this field. This workshop is free.

It is essential you inform us as soon as possible if you wish to participate in any of the above activities. Last year, we ran out of places a week before carnival. Once you have replied, further information will be sent to you regarding costume fitting times, mas camp details, carnival weekend timetables and map.
